# Dental Software for Solo Dentists in India

One chair, one dentist, one system. No IT person required.

India has roughly 65,000 dental clinics, and roughly 93 per cent of them are single-owner practices. Most practice software is not written for them: it arrives with implementation calls, per-seat pricing and a feature list built for a group with an office manager. This page is about the other case.

## Quick answer

Dentrah is cloud dental clinic software that one dentist and a receptionist can run in a single-chair clinic. It covers patient records, appointments, a 32-tooth odontogram, treatment plans, prescriptions and invoicing with part payments, in a browser and on Android and iOS. Charting and treatment plans need the recommended plan; the free first month includes everything.

## What a solo dental practice loses to paper

A single-chair clinic is not short of clinical skill. It is short of one person to chase everything else. The losses are quiet and they compound:

- A patient who does not return because nobody followed up, and nobody followed up because the recall lived in a receptionist's memory.
- An outstanding balance nobody can total, because payments are part-paid across visits and recorded in a book.

- A treatment plan agreed verbally, remembered as one figure by the dentist and a smaller one by the patient.
- Material that runs out mid-procedure because stock was tracked by looking at the shelf.

None of these needs a large system to fix. They need one place where the record lives.

## Which plan fits a single-chair clinic

There is no per-seat charge and no module you buy separately, but the two plans are not the same software. Be clear about the difference before you choose:

| Plan | What it includes | Suits |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Free first month | 30 days with every feature unlocked. No credit card. | Trying the whole system on real patients |
| Limited plan | Appointments, prescriptions, invoices, payments and reports. No dental charting, examinations, treatment plans, transactions, inventory, revenue share or accounting. | A front desk that only needs booking and billing |
| Recommended plan | Every feature. Including the odontogram, treatment plans, inventory and accounting. | A solo dentist who charts, plans treatment and wants clinic accounts |

Both plans are priced per clinic per month, with no setup fee and no long-term contract, and you can move from the limited plan to the recommended plan at any time. See current prices on the [pricing page](https://dentrah.in/pricing) and the full module list on the [features page](https://dentrah.in/features). Most solo dentists who chart at the chair will want the recommended plan; what the [dental charting software](https://dentrah.in/dental-charting-software) does is explained on its own page.

## Nothing to administer

There is no server in the back room and no installation on the clinic computer. Dentrah runs in a web browser, so the practice opens on whatever machine is in front of you: the reception desktop, a laptop, or a tablet at the chair.

This is the part solo dentists underrate until it bites. A local install ties your entire patient history to one physical computer. When that machine fails, is stolen, or is replaced, the records are the problem. With cloud software the machine is replaceable and the record is not tied to it. How the service is hosted and secured is described on the [technology page](https://dentrah.in/technology).

## From solo practice to a clinic with an associate

A single-chair clinic that does well becomes a two-chair clinic, then hires an associate. That is normally the moment you discover your software was a solo product and you need to move everything.

Dentrah handles the transition in the same account. Staff get individual logins with per-module permissions, so a receptionist sees the schedule and the patient list without seeing clinic financials. On the recommended plan, add an associate, set their commission percentage, and their share is calculated per invoice line: gross is quantity times price minus discount, net is gross minus lab cost and procedure cost, and the doctor takes their percentage of net. Payouts are recorded against the period they cover.

The full arithmetic is set out in the [guide to calculating dentist commission](https://dentrah.in/dental-doctor-commission-calculation), with worked examples.

## Starting a solo practice from paper registers

You do not need to back-enter years of registers before the software is useful. Start with the patients who are actually active. Register a patient when they next attend, chart them, plan their treatment, invoice from the plan. Within a couple of months the clinic's live caseload is in the system and the old register is an archive rather than a working document.

If you do want existing data brought across from spreadsheets or another system, there is no import fee; send a sample first and we will tell you honestly what transfers cleanly and what does not.

## A realistic first week

The failure mode when a solo practice adopts software is trying to do everything at once, getting three days in, and going back to the register. A sequence that tends to hold:

- **Day one:** set your clinic profile and working hours, and enter your procedure list with prices. This is the only genuine setup work, and it is what makes everything afterwards fast.
- **Day two:** stop keeping the appointment diary on paper. Book everything in the scheduler, including walk-ins. Nothing else changes yet.

- **Week one:** register each patient as they attend rather than bulk-entering your old register. Chart them, and let the treatment plan follow from the examination.
- **Week two:** start invoicing from completed procedures instead of writing bills separately. This is when the clinic's money and its clinical record become the same record. Our guide to [what every dental invoice should show](https://dentrah.in/what-every-dental-invoice-should-show) helps here.

## Before you decide

Dentrah does not process UPI payments (it records how the patient paid), does not integrate with ABDM or ABHA, and has no GST tax module. Appointment reminders are sent by staff over WhatsApp one tap at a time, not in bulk, and there is no patient self-booking. Clinic data is not hosted in India. Support is from Pakistan, in English, over WhatsApp and email, Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM IST, and enquiries are answered within one working day. For a private cash-paying practice those are usually not blockers; if your clinic depends on panel or government scheme work, they may be. The [Dentrah home page](https://dentrah.in/) sets out the limits in full, and the [about page](https://dentrah.in/about) explains who builds it.

## Software for solo dentists: frequently asked questions

###

No. A solo dentist with one receptionist can run the whole system. There is no implementation project, no server and no per-seat licence; pricing is per clinic per month. Setup is mostly entering your procedure list and prices.

###

If you chart teeth, write treatment plans or want inventory and accounting, choose the recommended plan, which has every feature. The limited plan covers appointments, prescriptions, invoices, payments and reports only, and leaves out dental charting, examinations, treatment plans, transactions, inventory, revenue share and accounting. The free first month has every feature, so you can decide after using it.

###

No. Dentrah runs in a web browser, so there is no server to maintain and no software to install on the clinic computer. If your computer fails, you log in from another one and your records are there.

###

The same account handles it on the recommended plan. Add the doctor, set their commission percentage, and their share is calculated per invoice line on net, with payouts recorded. Staff get individual logins with per-module permissions, and logins are not charged per seat.

###

Yes. There are Android and iOS apps using the same data as the browser, so a payment recorded at the front desk is visible on your phone.

###

Yes. You do not have to back-enter years of history. Start with active patients and let the record build from the next appointment onward. There is no setup or data-import fee.

###

The first month is free with no credit card. After that there are two plans, priced per clinic per month with no setup fee and no long-term contract. Current rupee prices are on the pricing page, and the exact amount is confirmed with you before billing.
